Bipolar Disorder Is A Serious Mental Illness - 803 Words
Bipolar Disorder is a serious mental illness that limits normal functioning and range of moods. Major indicators that someone may be suffering with Bipolar Disorder are mood swings ranging from severe mania to severe depression. According to the DSM-5 (2013), the Disorder is split into two categories based on severity of the manic state. While Bipolar I disorder is characterized by one or more manic episodes or mixed episodes and one or more major depressive episodes; Bipolar II disorder is diagnosed after one or more major depressive episodes and at least one episode of hypomania, with periods of leveled moods in between episodes. Rapid Cycling is a short clip that begins in an interview with Michael Landrio, a young man who suffers from Bipolar Disorder. Michael explains the struggles of living with mental illness and how he doesnââ¬â¢t realize when he is experiencing a manic or a depressive episode, ââ¬Å"It is very difficult to sometimes reconcile the two sides of me.â⬠The clip continues displaying different objects and images depicting his hypo manic state. Michael uses roller coasters, Ferris wheels and other hectic objects to demonstrate what he experiences in his manic state. The clips of the manic state fade away to a car pulling up to a stop sign, and then refocuses on a female with black paint around her eyes lighting a candle.
